Implement the countermeasures and measure the result. Create a plan how to implement the countermeasures by defining what tasks need to be done, by whom and by when. The implementation will then start according to this plan. The impact of the implemented countermeasures is measured in order to assess the success of the countermeasure(s) and act when results are not in line with expectations.
Tools and tips
An implementation plan is an overview of tasks that need to be done to implement the countermeasure. Together with the crew, list the tasks and assign owners for each task. Finally, agree on the due dates for each task.
You can use the implementation plan to monitor the progress of the implementation. Discuss the progress regularly, if you encounter issues, discuss them and define countermeasures.
We recommend to implement improvements quickly, tips to make the implementation successful:
- Assign owners for each task and make sure to align this ownership so it's clear what is being expected
- Define concrete and specific actions that can be executed
- Define due dates together to improve ownership and assure realistic due dates
- Monitor and discuss the progress with all stakeholders involved during a daily meeting
- If you require involvement/ actions from stakeholders in the office, it's the responsibility of the superintendent to align with these stakeholders and report the progress to the team
- The superintendent discusses the progress of the implementation with the Fleet manager weekly

- Did it work?! Congratulations, you learned how to fix the problem! Continue with final step.
- Did it fail?! Congratulations, you learned what didn't work. Go back to the previous step and select a different countermeasure to implement.
