In the Learnings phase, the team reflects on the project. The learnings are translated into actions that will be used in future PDCAs.
Tools and tips
Three topics are important in the learnings phase:
1. Capture the Lessons Learned
What did you learn during the execution of this PDCA? What went well and what would you do differently next time? Define concrete actions to make the learning explicit and more effective. Also consider what tips could you share with the Superintendents or other ships.
Part of the Learnings is also to evaluate if the implemented improvement is part of the new standard. Are they documented in the STMS (if applicable)? Are they visible on board? Take the required actions to incorporate the improvements in our processes.
2. Communicate the results
Communication is important to share the success within your team and with other stakeholders like the Superintendent. Communication also allows others to learn from your experience and implement the solutions as well. Sharing the results with other ships can be facilitated by the Superintendent. Completed PDCAs will be discussed in the Fleet management meetings and shared with other ships if applicable.
3. CELEBRATE the success!
Finally celebrate the success. The fact that you implemented an improvement is worth a celebration. Recognize your team for the effort they put into it. Celebration can be done in various ways. We recommend to at least make a picture of the team and display the picture on board.
