Key to defining a good improvement is to make it concrete and measurable.
It should be clear what exactly needs to be changed. Avoid vague improvements like 'improve communication', 'provide clear instructions' or 'take a more active role'. Make it more concrete instead. For example; 'create a PDCA template for the ships in which is stated what is expected from each step of the PDCA including tools they can use'.

One of the pitfalls of continuous improvement is that we jump to conclusions. Ask yourself the question: "am I trying to solve a problem?" If the answer is "yes", continue with the Problem Solving PDCA to make sure that you investigate the root causes before defining a solution.
